Diving Racha Noi
Racha Noi is much more wild and rugged than its sister island of Racha Yai. Huge granite boulders make up the main part of this island, which is almost split into two pieces in the middle.
Only another fifty minutes away from Racha Yai is the smaller of the two Racha islands Racha Noi. The dive sites here can be a little bit more testing than those on Racha Yai, as there are certain drop off points which go down to over seventy metres in depth. So a regular check of depth and air gauges is definitely recommended frequently here.
Racha Noi is one of those islands that you do not come across every day in fact, visitors are very lucky to come to such an isolated place at all. Let alone dive here. The diving is spectacular on Racha Noi, especially for the experienced divers and those that are completing a PADI course.
The area is popular with sport fishermen coming out of Phuket, there may be a yacht or two moored up for the day or the odd dive boat, but rarely will you see much boat traffic here than that. Several dive boats come out here throughout the year, but at certain times the crossing can be a little rough in particular in the green season.
What makes this place so different is that Racha Noi is the last stop off point before the Andaman Sea gets real deep again, and it is this that brings in the large pelagic fish.
They are attracted to this area due to the strong currents and deep parts, which, with all things combined, act as a fantastic feeding ground as the large plankton blooms attracts them in masses.
Manta Rays, Whalesharks, Big Tuna, Barracuda, Trevally’s, Black Tip, Grey and White Tip Reef Sharks also love the deep areas here.
There are several dive sites and only one of them is deep, the other are perfect for everyone, and are ideal for great shallow reef diving and perfect for dive courses and fun diving too.
